Shopping for homeschool curriculum can seem like an impossible task at times. There are so many things to consider. Your homeschool style, your child’s learning style, independent vs. teacher led options, then there is of course the cost to consider. I don’t know about you, but in all our curriculum shopping, Math seems to be one of those subjects that is consistently more expensive.
Where to Find Math Homeschool Curriculum At a Discount
I don’t know about you, but I am one homeschool mom who is always looking for a good deal. When I was recently looking for an online homeschool planner I was pretty excited to discover Homeschool Buyers Co-op. This website is FULL of great homeschool curriculum resources at a discount. And let me tell you, in the subject of math, the co-op doesn’t disappoint!
There are so many math curriculum options from the Homeschool Buyers Co-op. And I’m not just talking about math programs you’ve never heard of. There are so many award-winning selections to choose from. Plus, they have you covered for any and every type of homeschool curriculum you are looking for. The Math Curriculum Types
Like I mentioned above, Homeschool Buyers Co-op offers a ton of math choices for you broken down into different categories. I simply can’t brag about each program they have available. So, I’m choosing to list a few options, and highlight one or two products from each category below. Remember, this is just a small taste of all the homeschool curriculum options available to you.
Core Math Homeschool Curriculum
Before you glaze past this part of my post, I want you to know that the core homeschool curriculum choices do NOT mean common core. This simply means that the publisher of the math curriculum considers the product to be a full curriculum. Meaning, you wouldn’t need to supplement these curriculum choices.
Here you’ll find products like Horizions, Life of Fred, Math Mammoth, Saxon Math, CTC Math, and SO MANY MORE!
CTCMath uses online video tutorials that take a multi-sensory approach. The lessons are short and concise which helps your kids learn math concepts in small nuggets rather than in large chunks.
If you haven’t heard of Life of Fred, it is a series of math books completely different than your typical math book. Rather than a series of practice problems, Life of Fred contains fun stories about Fred Gauss, math genius. The stories put Fred in different situations that require your child to solve math problems. Your child will be learning their math lessons as they go on adventures with Fred. Because the stories are written in a way to bring excitement to math, your kids will be excited to continue on to the next chapter.
Supplemental Math Homeschool Curriculum
Supplemental curriculum choices include programs that are designed to give your children a more complete understanding of Math. You might find some of these programs helpful if you feel a core curriculum is lacking anywhere, or if you child just needs the material presented in a different way.
You’ll find products like Shiller Math, Math Seeds, Dream Box Learning, Discovery Education Streaming Plus, Zome Geometry and more.
The Discovery Education Streaming Plus is a fantastic resource for streaming educational videos in 6 core subjects for all grade levels. This is seriously like having access to all those amazing educational videos from the library without needing to leave your house. In the area of math, it features thousands of math tutorials. These tutorials are designed to be self paced and cover everything from adding to calculus!
Math is one of those subjects that can require a lot of practice before it’s mastered. I truly believe that math facts should be mastered before progressing to more advanced mathematical concepts. That being said, sometimes it’s fun to get in more math practice from an alternate source than your core curriculum. It’s just a simple way to mix things up a bit.
The practice programs include Learning Wraps & Palettes, Knowre, Reflex and more.
Knowre is a web-based math practice program perfect for your older kids. Knowre covers Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. This math curriculum has instructional videos, step by step directions. Plus, it features a reward system designed to help motivate your kids to continue to practice their math facts.
What better way to reinforce all of those math lessons with with some games?!? Sometimes we just need to throw some more fun into our homeschool day. Games provide a great opportunity to have fun, while learning at the same time. Games like Mathmania, Mathemagic, and Super Math World are sure to bring some fun to math practice!
These Mathmania books from Highlights look amazing! The books are written for kids ages 7-12 and are filled with puzzles to reinforce patterns, apply logic, create graphs, and so much more. These would be perfect for long car rides or trips to the doctor’s office.
